Mechanisches Junghans-Kaliber J86 (686.70) mit 15 Edelsteinen – indirekter Sub-Sekundenzeiger – monometallische Schrauben-Unruh in Edelstahlgehäuse – neues, zeitgenössisches Armband Ohne Schatulle und Unterlagen
Up for auction is a very rare Junghans Tonneau with the J86 (686.70) calibre. The recently serviced movement (Google 'Junghans J86 ranfft') is unusual and like the case was only produced for two years - mid 1937 to mid 1939. After that time Junghans went into fulltime military instrument and watch production. These watches were popular with the German officer class for formal evening wear. The classic dial [[measures 22.20mms]] is original with a very little patina and the case is in good original condition. The watch has been cherished. The new contemporary strap will fit wrists to 22.00cms.
Please bear in mind that the Junghans is almost 80 years old. I urge you to examine the High Definition photos carefully as they form the basis of this fine and rare veteran watch's description.
The Junghans will be very well wrapped and shipped via Colissimo International Insured & Signed For.
ANTMAT IS AN ABBREVIATION OF ANTERIOR MATTERS (PAST TIMES)
I have been collecting watches for some 50 years, starting with Tavannes/Cymas and later Crotons. My first watch was a Tavannes/Cyma given to my mother during the London 'Blitz' in WW2. Like many of my watches, this one has an interesting history. My mother joined the ATS (The Auxiliary Territorial Service) early in 1941 and became one of a fleet of drivers who chauffeured the likes of Winston Churchill and later General Eisenhower.
One day one of her friends was a couple of minutes late picking up Mr. Churchill and was given a 'rollicking' by the great man:
“Why are you late?”, he roared. “Time is precious and we do not have enough of it. Time is running out – we must not, indeed we cannot waste it!”
In tears my mother's friend replied, “I am sorry Sir but I do not have a watch, and the clock in the car must be a bit slow.”
Tearing a page off his notebook he scribbled something on it and said, “Take this to the Ministry of Supply the very minute you drop me off and demand to see the Minister personally by my order. My mother's friend gave the Minister Churchill's note who said to her, “Tell Mr. Churchill that his order will be placed immediately and you girls will all receive watches as soon as possible.”
The watches arrived two weeks later! How they came is another story!
So that was watch number one which my mother gave me when I went away to school about 13 years later. I still have it and it still keeps time.
Once I started work, I bought a watch a month for about 20 years and then on average 1.5 a month for the next 20 years. This formed the basis of my collection though I still buy the odd watch for parts or sometimes because I feel like it!
I have always cared about my watches and when I sell one it is like losing an old friend. Accordingly I try and make sure that they are in good order and/or serviced before being well packed.
Finally I strongly recommend that you read my Feedback; it tells its own story!
Well I must go - time flies when you're my age,
AntMat
