[2], 60 soft-ground etchings (37 tinted by hand); light foxing to title, blank margins occasionally a little spotted; contemporary half green calf, rebacked to style and with red morocco label, marbled edges by Lancaster (?) & Son, Worcester, (corners bumped and worn, light foxing to title),

‘Unknown, except to his intimate friends, during his lifetime, Gainsborough's landscape drawings form a most remarkable repertory of picturesque motives, which had a great influence after his death. This was partly due to the series of sixty plates admirably engraved by W. F. Wells and J. Laporte of a very free group of them, which were published by Boydell’ (Waterhouse, p. 49) Early re-issue of these beautiful facsimiles with 37 plates tinted by hand. The dedication leaf is watermarked 1818 and bears the variant imprint of H. R. Young (both the Abbey and BL copies with the - presumably later - imprint of John and Josiah Boydell; Abbey’s copy is watermarked 1820-21).
